Admissions September 2020

Please be aware that appeals for Reception admissions for September 2020 now has an extended deadline until 12th June.

On behalf of the Governors, I am delighted to welcome your child to our Reception Class at St. Gabriel’s R.C. Primary School starting September 2020.

In these unprecedented times, it is a very different welcome letter that I write.  Normally, an intake meeting for parents and children takes place in the Summer term but under such unprecedented circumstances due to the Coronavirus pandemic, this is not possible.  We will therefore email a PowerPoint and put this on the school website (see below).  This will then be followed up with an information evening on Thursday 3rd September at 5.30pm.  This is an opportunity for children and parents to meet with one another (probably at a social distance) and the children can visit the environment they will be learning in.  Also, we will be extending our transition period for children entering into Reception therefore they will each complete a week for their age band rather than 2 days.

The transition dates for the new Reception children in September will now be on 21st September, 28th September and 5th October.  This is a later start than usual as I have taken this decision, to keep all the children safe but also for the well-being of the pupils already on role at St Gabriel’s, as when the whole school returns the children will need staff around them who they already know and trust.  I appreciate your co-operation with this.

If it is safe for the children to have a transitional phase before the end of this academic year, we will endeavour to do so.

School Start Date

School starts in September with children joining the class in staggered intake groups depending on the term of birth. This is to allow the maximum children to staff ratio and to settle children into class in small numbers allowing us to establish good routines.

Please drop your child off at the classroom door at the school start time of 8:45am and collect them at 2:50pm. (These are school’s normal opening and closing times.)

Welcome  Liturgy

Parents and children are invited to attend a special Welcome Liturgy prepared by our older children. At this service your child will be formally welcomed into our school community. This will be followed by refreshments to provide opportunity to meet other parents and school staff.

Friday 9th October.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs. Laura Bolton

Headteacher
