Year 5 2026

Welcome to Year 5

Welcome to Year 5. I am Mr Golding and I am looking forward to teaching this wonderful year group. Below you will find a lot of useful information. If you have any questions, I am available at the end of each day at the classroom door and also by appointment via the school office.

Year 5 Transition Booklet

This may be particularly useful if your child has an additional need or would just like to become familiar with the classroom adults and routines before starting the year.

Seesaw

Seesaw is used to communicate reminders to parents and to share photos and video clips of the children's learning. In September, the children will bring home a parent letter to help you connect to the class SeeSaw account.

PE

In Year 5, PE will be on X and X. On these days, we ask children to come to school in their PE kits.

Homework

For Homework in Year 5, we ask the children to continue to read their accelerated school reading books and complete their quizzes online. We also ask the children to continue to improve their timestable fluency using the website, TTRockstar. Children should continue to work to improve their spellings as described below.

Reading

Children will find their accelerated reader login details in their reading records. This will allow them to log in to the Renaissance Learning Platform and complete a quiz once they have finished reading their book. The quiz will update their ZPD which in turn determines the box of books that they can choose from within school.

TT Rockstars

Children will find their TTRockstar login in their reading records. They should log on and aim to practise for 5-10 minutes each night.

Spelling

This year, the children will be accessing a new spelling scheme, completing lots of practice activities in school. However, children in Year 5 should also work hard to learn the tricky words on the statutory word list below. Choosing 5-8 words per week, this should be extra homework over time.

Purple Mash

At St Gabriel's, the children complete their computing work on a website called PurpleMash. The children will receive login details for PurpleMash. However, this programme is generally to be used in school time. Where this is not the case, communication will be sent via Seesaw.

Bounce Together

Your child will also have login details for a website called BounceTogether. This is a programme that facilitates surveys throughout the year. They will not need to access this website at home.

Year Group Overview

The document below gives an overview of the topics that the children will be learning about throughout the year.

Curriculum Newsletters

Please see below for some term by term, more detailed information about what the children will be learning about.

Knowledge Organisers

Unit by unit, the children will explore a wide range of knowledge. This is summarised for each unit of learning in the following documents which will become very familiar to the children over time.
