Diwali

We enjoyed learning about Diwali.

Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights, it is the most popular of all the festivals from South Asia.

It is also the occasion for celebrations by Jains and Sikhs as well as Hindus.

The word Diwali comes from the Sanskrit word deepavali, meaning "rows of lighted lamps".

We learnt about the story of Rama and Sita, Rama was banished, after 14 years he returned to his home kingdom with Sita.  People lit torches so they could follow the light and find their way home.

We made our own Diva lamps and learnt some special dancing to celebrate this festival.

Diwali Dance Inspiration.

Kids perform at ISW 2012 Diwali program (Indian Society of Worcester) in Marlborough, MA. Songs include: Vakratunda shlok, Dheem Ta Tare (Thakshak) Jai Ho & Dholi Taro. Choreographed by Neha Thakur & Hema Iyengar
