St Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Primary School

The Full Governing Board

The Full Governing Board meets once each term.

There are three non-statutory committees which meet at least once a term.  These are:

  1. The Resources Committee (which oversee, discuss and report on school finance, personnel and premises);

  2. The Curriculum/Pupil Committee (which oversees all curricular and extra-curricular activities which take place in school);

  3. The Performance Improvement Committee (which looks at the school improvement agenda of the school and looks at the next steps in the development of the school).

The Governors’ Committees report back to the Full Governing Board.  All members of the Governing Body sit on one or more committee. The job of the committees is to manage all aspects of the school.

Mary Chadwick - Chair of Governors

I have a very strong affection for St Gabriel’s, being one of four generations having attended; my mother, myself, our three children & our granddaughter have all benefitted from our catholic ethos. As a Governor I bring this affection along with my experience of being a senor manager within the NHS & having a MSc in Management.

Brian Redman - Vice Chair of Governors (LA Governor)

I was employed by the Co-op based in Manchester for over 40 years retiring in 2002 and was mainly involved in corporate finance. I was involved in the Co-operative Credit Union after my retirement on a voluntary basis on the Supervisory Committee. I have been on the governing board for a number of years.

Mr Tommy Ingham - Foundation Governor

I am a Foundation Governor, which means that my position is accountable to Salford Diocese, I am also a Parent with two children at school. My Hobbies include walking,Amateur Dramatics,photography (landscapes) and music of all varieties. My passion is for the community of St. Gabriel's and Castleton, that we all fulfill our commitment to village community life with christian values at the heart of everything.

Fr Michael Johonnett - Foundation Governor

Hi, Father Michael here.  I am Parish Priest and Foundation Governor.  I support Manchester United and enjoy walking and reading.

Mrs Helen Critchlow - Foundation Governor

I am a foundation governor at St Gabriel’s and have been for 6 years. I am married and our daughter attends the school. I’m a former pupil, so I have a vested interest in everything that goes on! I work at St John’s School, so it’s lovely that I am involved with the two schools within our parish, as I am very committed to Catholic education. I have worked in education at all different levels for the past 16 years. I have a degree in Primary Education and a qualification in school business management, so I have a well-rounded understanding of the system. In my spare time I enjoy cooking, reading and following Manchester United. I also enjoy swimming, and am soon due to complete a one mile outdoor swim in Salford Quays, to raise money for The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. I must be mad!!

Mrs Marion Brown - Foundation Governor

I am currently one of the Parent Governors for St Gabriel's School and have held this position for approx. 2 years, I am soon to transfer to being a Foundation Governor.
 My daughter is in Year 4 and she loves every day coming to this School - "its the best".
 I am a committed parishioner of St Gabriel's & St Johns Parish, my own school back ground is St John's and it delights me that there is a shared working partnership between the 2 parishes and schools.
 I am the Business Support Principle Manager for Rochdale Children's Services which is the umbrella service for Children's Social Care and Schools.  Through my work and my role as Governor I have a full commitment to all children in our borough being given opportunities and support to reach their full potential.

Mrs Gemma Johnson - Foundation Governor

I am proud former pupil of St Gabriel’s and I have been very lucky to have experienced a range of excellent educational opportunities that have lead me to where I am today. I am a qualified teacher currently working with local universities to deliver degrees in Education and Early Childhood Studies, I mentor trainee teachers and I am actively involved in educational research; I am also the parent of a child attending St Gabriel’s. I have taken on the role of Foundation Governor firstly to ‘pay back’ the school where it all began for me and secondly, to share my passion for education – all children have the right to access excellent education that recognises them as the unique individuals that they are, that is my goal as a Governor.
