Year Five

Hello and welcome to Year 5's page! My name is Mrs Reynolds and I am so excited to be teaching Year 5 again this year! Year 5 is one of my favourite year groups to teach and I am so luck to have such a wonderful class to teach! We are going to learn so much and have lots of fun along the way :-).

Please find Year 5 information below, and if you have any questions, I am always available at the end of each school day and can be contacted via the school office.

Below you will find the Year 5 information booklet. Here is a little overview of important day-to-day information.

Seesaw:

Seesaw is used to:

  • Communicate with parents
  • Share photographs and activities of the children's work and experiences
  • Share a digital copy of the children's spellings

PE:

We have PE every Tuesday, and we ask for all children to come into school wearing their PE kit on this day please.

Homework:

Homework is set every Friday and is to be returned to school by the following Wednesday. There will be once piece of English and one piece of maths each week. All homework is glued into their homework books and you will find their spellings in their too.

Home / School Reading:

Please ensure that children's reading packs are brought into school each and every day.

All children have been provided with a new reading pack that includes:

  • An Accelerated Reader Book
  • A Reading Journal (Please aim to fill this in three times a week when you read with your child.)

Accelerated Reader:

Children are assessed and given a ZPD which stands for their Zone of Proximal development. Their ZPD lets the children know which books are appropriate for them. We have a wonderful, wide range of books for the children to choose from! After completing their book, the children take a little quiz that ranges from 5 to 10 questions, depending on the complexity of the text. This quiz may be taken at home or at school - a link is available towards the bottom of the page and your child has a copy of their username and password in their reading journal. Through these quizzes, children build up points and work towards a target. This helps the children to see their progress as they read through their chosen books. Parents/carers are able to see how their child does on each quiz by following the instructions on the parent letter which has been sent home.

Times Table Rockstars!

In your child's reading journal, you will find their log in for this. Please encourage your child to log on for a few minutes each day to ensure super times table knowledge!
